A November Walk from Sennen Cove

Our trip wasn’t really planned — just one of those November days that feels too good to waste indoors.

We parked up in the harbour car park and started, as we often do, with coffee and cake from Sennen Cove Café.

Now, the parking at the harbour end still needs cash at the time of writing, whereas at the other end they have the more modern machines where you can pay by card or app.

I decided I wanted a longer walk with Jess and some fresh air. So, Simon stayed in the van, looking out to sea and watching the cold-water swimmers taking their dip in the harbour, while Jess and I headed up the path toward Mayon Cliffs and the lookout point.

It’s been a long time since I’ve headed out that way, and I was quite pleased with my fitness — it’s a decent climb and a bit too much for Simon now. Jess was striding out confidently ahead of me, but not quite enough to help with the uphill bit!

It was about half past three on a Friday afternoon in November, pretty quiet but still a few people walking along the coast path. The sky was so blue, just a few wispy clouds, but being Sennen at this time of year, I was in shadow as I climbed. It was so warm I really didn’t need a jacket, particularly on the way up.

Then I reached the lookout point and the sun exploded in front of me.

It was a real WOW moment.

From the top, the view stretches out towards Land’s End, and I was lucky enough to reach it just as the sun was dipping towards the sea. Jess even struck a little pose, her blond fur catching the light.

The climb up isn’t too bad, but on the way down you realise some of the steps are steep in places and a little slippy — perfectly safe if you take your time. Jess decided halfway down to take a toilet break off the path, meaning a bit of careful ‘off-roading’ for me to retrieve. Dogs!

A good walk, coffee and cake, sunshine, and time to breathe — simple ingredients of a perfect Cornish afternoon.

I’ve added a gallery of photos from the walk below — it really was one of those days where every turn seemed worth a picture.
