Space to Settle: Why Quiet Matters for Dogs Too

It’s easy to imagine that a dog-friendly holiday has to include your dog in everything. Beach days, pub lunches, clifftop walks, day trips and café stops. But the truth is, not every dog wants that kind of holiday. And that’s okay.

Some dogs thrive on activity. Others thrive on rest—especially in new places. Being in a new environment is stimulating enough. The scents, the sounds, the changes in routine—it all adds up. For many dogs, what they really need is a chance to settle, mooch, and simply be.

At Lebanon Cottage, we’ve made space for that kind of dog too.

Dogs who like to sunbathe in the garden.
Dogs who enjoy a quiet sniff in the paddock.
Dogs who are happiest having a snooze while you go out exploring.

It’s absolutely fine to leave your dog behind sometimes—as long as it’s safe, cool, and comfortable. For some dogs, that quiet time is exactly what helps them feel at ease in a new place. It gives them time to process the change, to relax without pressure, and to build confidence slowly.

We often hear from guests that their dog settled more quickly than expected—and part of that, we think, comes down to not overloading the first few days.

Letting the holiday unfold gently.

Giving your dog permission to do less.

Feeling comfortable in the environment that we have created for you.

So if you’re staying here and wondering whether to bring your dog along to the pub, or whether they’d be happier snoozing at home—trust your instincts. We are always happy for dogs to be left in the cottage alone if they will not get stressed. Simply give me a call and we can discuss your needs and set your mind at rest.

Or if your dog needs someone to sit with them while you go out for the day, we can help you find someone suitable.

A dog-friendly holiday doesn’t have to be a full schedule.

Sometimes, the best gift you can give your dog is the space to settle.
